- n., 1. An imitation or reproduction of an original. In the law of evidence, a copy is generally admissible to prove the contents of a writing. 2. Copyright. the physical form in which a creative work is fixed and from which the work can be reproduced or perceived, with or without the aid of a special device. 3. copyright. An expressive work that is substantially similar to a copyrighted work and not produced coincidentally and independently from the same source as the copyrighted work.
